Risks: heat stroke and exhaustion
While travelling or participating in programmes, it is essential that you are cautious around heat risks.
In our ever warming world, risks of heat exhaustion or stroke are increasing. Unprecedented record breaking heat is now becoming a normal part of annual weather patterns everywhere. This is a risk everywhere - even in cold countries like the UK.
This BBC article provides an excellent explanation of the risks, please read it - its quite interesting and outlines what the risks are (and why!)
A few interesting takeaways:
•Once your core temperature exceeds a safe temperature, organ failure or death is likely.
•Slight increases in temperature are exponentially difficult for your body to handle
•Sunburned skin drastically lowers your body's ability to regulate heat.
•Your body might sweat out litres of water on very hot days - stay hydrated!
•Humidity makes it harder for you cool down through perspiration, making risks elevate even on a somewhat warm day
