Learner Induction: TEFL training programme

The induction is designed to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to help you navigate your learning experience with us, it is designed to ensure you can thrive and understand all important aspects of your time with us - so please pay attention when this is delivered.

By the end of this induction, you will have a good understanding of our policies, and what support we have available.

Topic 1: Introduction to the TEFL Training Programme

First, we will introduce you to our TEFL Training Programme and our training philosophy. You will learn about our commitment to providing high-quality English teacher training, our learner-centred approach, and our focus on creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. 

Topic 2: Course Content and Assessment

Next, we will cover the course content and assessment. You will learn about the different components of the course, such as grammar, teaching methods and techniques, and classroom management. You will also learn about the different types of assessments, such as assignments and observed teaching practice, and how they are used to evaluate your progress in the course. We set out our expectations of learners in terms of assignments, attendance, attitude and engagement. In particular, we will discuss our plagiarism and academic misconduct policy.

Topic 3: Learning Resources and Support

For this topic, we will focus on the learning resources and support available to you as a learner in our programme. You will learn about the main technological tools we use, from Zoom to Loom and Moodle to Thinkific. We will discuss the different types of resources, such as textbooks, online platforms, and multimedia resources, that you can use to enhance your learning. You will also learn about the different types of support, such as tutorials and feedback, that can be booked to help you succeed in the course.

Topic 4: Classroom Management and Learner Engagement

For this topic, we will chat further about classroom management and learner engagement. You will learn about your duties as a learner to ensure you have a good learning experience and what you should do to create a positive learning environment, and ensure that all learners have an equal opportunity to learn and participate in class. While most learning takes place online, we will meet other learners during our placements, we will touch on policies that relate to this - such as our code of conduct (which explores our stance on bullying, sexual harassment and other important areas)

Topic 5: Professional Development

For this topic, we will focus on professional development. You will learn about the different opportunities available to you for ongoing training and development, such as workshops, conferences, and online courses. You will also learn about the importance of continuing professional development once you graduate and become a teacher! We will signpost areas where you could begin looking now to further your future development and advise you to take the philosophy that its never too early!

Topic 6: Policies and Procedures

Finally, we will cover the policies and procedures of our Programme. You will learn more about our code of conduct, health and safety policies, Prevent, safe-guarding (of relevance on placement) and any other important procedures that you need to be aware of as a learner in our programme, we will also advise you where to find these policies if you need to refer to them later.

If a fire muster point is deemed to be relevant then it will be disclosed - otherwise, we will advise you to check that you are aware of fire and other health/safety policies when you join our placements.

We will also explore what to do if you are struggling, facing a mental health challenge or financially straitened circumstances during a programme. We will advise who your point of contact is and what we can do if any difficulties emerge for you, and refer to our policy relating to reasonable adjustments and special considerations.
