Staff Induction Course: Gotoco TEFL Teacher Trainers 

The induction is designed to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to become an effective teacher trainer in our TEFL programme. By the end of induction, you will have a good understanding of our training philosophy, policies and procedures, and the tools and resources available to you.

Topic 1: Introduction to English Teacher Training Programme

First, we will introduce you to our English Teacher Training Programme and our training philosophy - why we do what we do and how we expect you to do it too! You will learn about our commitment to providing high-quality English teacher training, our student-centred approach, and our focus on creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Topic 2: Teaching Methods and Techniques

Next, we will cover a survey overview of teaching methods and techniques that you can use in the classroom, both offline and on. You will learn about the communicative approach, task-based learning, and other techniques that are effective in promoting active learning and engaging trainees in the teaching process.

Topic 3: Classroom Management

In this topic, we will focus on classroom management. You will learn about effective ways to create a positive learning environment, manage trainee behaviour, and ensure that all trainees have an equal opportunity to learn and participate in class - particularly in the new world of e-learning in the post-COVID era. We will explore case studies of successes and failures that we have experienced with our previous candidates on our Trinity CertTESOL programme and our in-house TEFL and let you reflect on how to achieve good outcomes for your own classes.

Topic 4: Curriculum and Lesson Planning

In this topic, we will cover curriculum and lesson planning. You will learn about the different types of curricula and the importance of planning or managing lessons that are relevant, engaging, and appropriate for the needs of your trainees.

Topic 5: Assessment and Evaluation

In this topic, we will focus on assessment and evaluation. You will learn about the different types of assessments, such as formative and summative assessments, and how to use them effectively to evaluate trainee progress and adjust your training accordingly.

Topic 6: Technology and Resources

In this topic, we will cover the use of technology and resources in the classroom and explore the various nifty tricks and opportunities offered by the various e-learning platforms and ancillary tools - from Thinkific to Moodle, Zoom to Loom! You will learn about the different types of technology and resources that you can use to enhance your training, such as multimedia resources, online platforms, and educational apps.

At this point, we will also ensure you have been through Gotoco’s onboarding webpage: https://www.go-to.co/team-onboarding/

The page requires you to be logged in, so the first step will be giving you a www.goto.co user account. Once logged in, it will instruct you how to get setup on Trello (for team discussions), HelpScout (for student ticketing) and Zoho (for email!), you will also have access to our incident reporting tool and our knowledge base - where various other procedures are explained.

Topic 7: Policies and Procedures

In this topic, we will cover the policies and procedures of our English Teacher Training Programme. You will learn about our code of conduct, health and safety policies, and other important procedures that you need to be aware of as a trainer in our school. We will show you where to find them for future perusal too.

Topic 8: Professional Development

In this topic, we will focus on professional development. You will learn about the different opportunities available to you for ongoing training and development, such as workshops, conferences, and online courses, we will also run through our CPD policy and recommend training courses that you might consider for future development - emphasis will be made on the requirement that 30 hours per year of CPD be undertaken.

Final note:

Once you have progressed through the induction, we will welcome you aboard - you will officially have become one of our team. We hope that this induction will have provided you with a good understanding of our training philosophy, policies and procedures, and the tools and resources available to you as a trainer in our school.
